Monel Mesh offers outstanding corrosion resistance and is suitable for work conditions with large heating and corrosion resistance applications. It is a popular material for filter equipments.

Monel mesh is made from Monel 400 or K-500 grades. It offers excellent resistance to diverse corrosive conditions including sea water, steam, salt and caustic media. Monel metal has good melting point of 1300- 1350 therefore it is fit for implementing in the elevated temperature applications. Monel mesh is often used in research and development applications of petroleum and ocean exploration.

Unlike other metals mesh, Monel wire mesh provides suitable heating characteristics and has several applications in heat exchangers, heating facilities for boilers.

Monel 400 Mesh:

Monel 400 mesh significantly prevents the attack of de-aerated hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acids. It offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking in fresh water and other corrosive media. Monel mesh provides outstanding mechanical characteristics at subzero temperatures and durability and hardness. It is resistant to ductile to brittle conversion when cooled to fluid hydrogen temperature.

Monel K-500 Woven Wire Mesh

Monel K-500 mesh provides outstanding resistance to corrosion and has good strength and hardness. It retains its strength over 1200oF although it retains good ductility and hardness at about 400oF. Monel mesh has high melting point of 2400oF – 2460oF.

Advantages of using Monel Mesh

Monel mesh has great mechanical strength. In an age hardened form, it attains good durability against stress corrosion cracking and provides supreme resistance to sour gas solutions.

Monel mesh shows non-magnetic characteristics and spark resistance up to about 200oFInconel Mesh, Inconel 690 Mesh however it is probable to develop the magnetic layer on alloy’s surface while treatment. The elements such as copper and aluminium oxidize easily while heating that develop magnetic nickel layer on the metal’s surface. The developed magnetic characteristics can be eliminated through pickling.

Monel wire mesh metal is known for its hardness that is retained over the significant range
of temperatures. Alloy 400 is a binary solid solution alloy containing nickel and copper that are mutually soluble in the whole conditions unlike to high copper alloys. The versatility of Monel metal makes it ideal for operation in the various media. The alloy is widely used in the marine conditions. It attains minor corrosion rate in the running sea water and static conditions.

Welding and fabrication of Monel 400 are easy. The metal can be hot formed into any form. It is softer than other steels. It is necessary to attain suitable temperature for hot forging that changes from 1200oF to 2150oF. The suitable temperature for extensive reductions varies from 1700oF – 2150oF although the limit decreases to 1200oF for nominal reductions. The low temperature processing offers outstanding mechanical properties and nominal grain development.

Monel 400 is maintainable by using whole cold forging methods. The strengths and work hardening rate varies between mild steel and 304 stainless steel.
